Just a Thought

We are all well aware of the five a day that we should be eating to improve our physical health. Now to complete the whole picture, five a day to promote good mental health is becoming the in thing to strive for.

What, you may ask are those magical five things. Well, this is more complicated than eating your five fruit and veg. There are finite numbers of fruit and veg on the market to purchase but things that can improve mental health are far, far numerous. What could work for one person would be difficult for another so we tailor our five to suit ourselves.

Good mental health – what makes you happy and content?

  • Sitting in the sun

  • Spending time with family or friends

  • Taking a walk

  • Watching a sunset

  • A line of washing on a summers day

  • Chatting to neighbours

  • Smiling

  • Receiving a compliment

  • Giving a compliment and making someone smile

  • Getting a hug

  • Watching your children play

  • The scent of flowers

Well I have twelve already so you see how you can have your own list of happiness triggers. Things that make you smile. These are the things that we need to incorporate into our lives to improve our wellbeing. Involving them into your everyday life will enhance your levels of wellbeing and hopefully those you interact with.

So look to your mental health as well as your physical health and decide which your five will be (these can change every day as there are so many of them) and feel your mood lifting.

Strive for five it’s good to be alive.
